The mage formerly known as Jaguntol of the Dotharl.

Bio

NAME: Jouichi Kagami
LOST NAME: Jaguntol Dotharl
AGE: 25
GENDER: Cis male
RACE: Xaela Au Ra
ORIENTATION: Homosexual

CANON JOBS: Black Mage, Dragoon

HAIR: Pure black, wavy, listen it's the PvP hair okay
EYES: White iris, glowing red limbal rings, black sclera
SKIN: Light grey, blue undertone
HORNS: Tinted red at the tip
HEIGHT: 7'0", max height

PERSONALITY: The first impression of Jouichi is a short-tempered young man who dislikes everyone and everything he comes in contact with almost immediately, will only do something kind for another through gritted teeth, and really ought to leave if he hates being here so much; part of this is his true nature, and part of this is a deliberate act. His ego is simply too fragile to accept being seen as anything other than a scary, powerful, hostile force. Obviously this doesn't always succeed for him, but it is what it is, and it helps him get through the day.

Around those who know him well and can gauge how much of his vitriol is an act at any given time, deep in his heart of hearts, he does unfortunately care about people sometimes. He's very intelligent and is willing to use his skills and resources to help people, but will always do so with a scowl and a (probably insincere) complaint. Anyone else who treats his friends the way he treats them will have their tongue metaphorically ripped out in seconds.

However, there is a reason his main job focuses solely on big explosions with no team support whatsoever. In any conflict, his main priority will always be to pursue the attackers rather than help the victims. When riled up he becomes extremely selfish and aggressive, steamrolling completely over others' feelings and concerns, and will hardly ever apologise.

Jouichi strongly believes in the faith and traditions of the Xaela, despite having been excommunicated. He fully acknowledges Azim and Nhaama as his deities, and is reasonably sure that Azeyma is somehow related, so he sends offerings to her too whenever he passes by. He believes completely in reincarnation, but remains conflicted on the point of whether he actually is Jaguntol reincarnated or not. Habits and behaviour that seem odd to others are easy to accept for him, because after you've met the tribe that plays a game of chess to choose their leader or the tribe that communicates exclusively through singing, it's not that big of a deal anymore.

LIMITS
I do not do ERP. I'm perfectly okay with flirting and suggestive stuff, so long as it "fades to black" or never moves past talk or light touching.

All other heavy topics are fair game.

Hooks

FIRST APPEARANCE
A tall, dour, irritable looking Xaela man with striking eyes and wavy hair. Although ostensibly from the Azim Steppe, his hair and clothing are styled drastically Eorzean, as if he's making an active effort to appear so. His rod, a black and red staff shaped vaguely like a ram's head, is the only notably Xaela thing about him. When he introduces himself, he stares you dead in the eyes and gives you a Raen (?) name.

History

TLDR:
He was a Dotharl until he wasn't. At age 16 he was stripped of his name and reincarnated past, so he fled to Kugane and then Eorzea. Now he's just some freak with a made-up Raen name and an obsession over fancy black coats.

HISTORY:
The name Jaguntol, in the language of the Azim Steppe, translates to “hundred mirrors” or “hundred reflections”. Jaguntol, the first one, was a warrior of the Dotharl tribe known less for his physical ability and more for his advances in Xaela dark magic. He was a gifted mage, and teacher to many students who would go on to become the brutally powerful warriors the Dotharl are known for. He died shortly before this child was born, and according to Dotharl tradition, the boy was therefore Jaguntol reincarnated. He was given the same name and early magical training, where he predictably excelled.

It is the nature of Dotharl to be quick to draw blades; they fear not death, and so can throw themselves at every opponent with no provocation or fear of failure. Eventually, Jaguntol became old enough — and confident enough in his magical power — to take on the Nadaam's right of passage, following the footsteps of Bardam the Brave. Alone, as it is meant to be done.

The Yol tore him apart.

It would not stop. Alone, crumpled in a heap and bleeding out on his ancestors' land, Jaguntol of the Dotharl was presented with a choice; he could keep shooting off thunderbolts and fireballs until his head was torn off his body, or he could run for his life. Instincts kicked in, and Jaguntol ran.

No Dotharl could be permitted to exist with this act of cowardice on their conscience. When he returned to the tribe and felt their judgment pressing down upon him, the boy lashed back at his own people, his own family, trying to defend his decision and insult his opponents' ability in the same breath. Ultimately, this combination of cowardice and subsequent disrespect proved his character: indeed, he was no Dotharl at all. He had no right to carry Jaguntol's name, and he had no right to remain a member of the clan. That night, he was driven out.

This hit him hard. Robbed of his home and his identity, the unnamed Xaela cursed all their names and ran. He eventually found his way to Doma, where he attempted to make up a name similar to those that the local Raen used -- but having little to no understanding of the language, the resulting alias of “Jouichi Kagami” was imperfect and obviously gibberish to any native speaker.

He could not take back the name Jaguntol Dotharl. It was no longer his to take. This would have to do.
Jouichi spent the next several years traveling around the Far East, selling himself out as a hired adventurer and dutifully avoiding the northern steppes. True, he honed his craft somewhat in that time and was… sometimes able to make enough money to support himself, but that point of his life was spent very much alone and full of self-loathing.

Further travels took Jouichi to the desert city of Ul’dah, hoping to join the Thaumaturge's Guild. He changed his dress and hairstyle to ‘go native’, so to speak, perfectly happy to discard everything to do with his homeland. No one questioned his name in Eorzea, because no one knew enough about Xaela names to call him out on it, and Jouichi thought that was delightful. He was accepted into the guild, and through his experiences there picked up the language of Eorzea, enabling him to better study the techniques of the Ul’dahn mages.
